Number Sense to 200
Grade 2 numbers grow to 200, and place value becomes the big idea.
- Read, write, and compare whole numbers to 200.
- Understand that a two-digit number is made of tens and ones (34 = 3 tens + 4 ones).
- Skip-count by 2s, 5s, 10s, and 25s.
- Identify numbers as even or odd, and explore simple fractions (halves, thirds, fourths) as equal parts of a whole.
Knowing place value helps you see *why* 40 is bigger than 34 — it has more tens.
