Confident Problem Solving
By Grade 5 you have many strategies to choose from. The skill now is picking a good one and switching if it is not working — flexibility, not stubbornness.
The mathematical processes:
- Problem solving — plan, try, and revise.
- Reasoning and proving — justify each step.
- Representing and connecting — move between pictures, numbers, and symbols.
- Communicating — explain clearly enough for someone else to follow.
Noticing your own thinking ("I'll estimate first") makes you a stronger, calmer mathematician.
