Soils in the Environment
Soil is made of several parts mixed together.
- It contains sand, clay, and humus (decayed plant and animal matter), plus air and water.
- Different soils hold different amounts of water and support different plants.
- Many living things, from worms to insects, make their home in soil.
Humus makes soil rich because it returns nutrients that new plants can use to grow.
